No doubt Alabama football fans love seeing the Crimson Tide land top talent from across the nation, but in-state recruits are the heart and soul of the program.

Year after year and class after class, we see Coach Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide coaching staff reel in top talent from across the nation for the Alabama football program. As great as that is, the heart and soul of the program are those few young men in each class from sweet home, Alabama. In the most recent edition of the Tide Talk Sports recruiting spotlight we take a look at Ian Jackson, outside linebacker from Prattville, Alabama.

Ian Jackson. OLB. Prattville HS. Prattville, AL.

Standing at 6-2 and weighing in at 225 pounds, Ian Jackson definitely fits the bill as a SEC linebacker. Jackson had an incredible night in Prattville’s week one game, and put his talents on display in multiple situations on defense and on special teams. In my opinion, Jackson is a young man who plays much, much higher than his ranking. There is absolutely no doubt that the future is incredibly bright for Ian at the University of Alabama.

Earlier today, I had a chance to speak to Ian’s uncle, Coach Reggie Jackson. I asked him just what it was that made Ian so special, both as a young man and as an athlete.

“As a young man he is a very humble leader. Ian always wants to do what’s best for him and for his teammates for them to be successful. As a player his versatility stands out the most. He started his career as a cornerback/safety. It was just last year when coach asked him to make the move to the linebacker position. Having that background as a defensive back has allowed him to be able to be a run stopper, edge rusher, and to be able to cover man to man. He also takes coaching extremely well, and usually understands without the need for any further explanation.”

The University of Alabama currently has one linebacker starting next to Dylan Moses with a background as a defensive back in Christian Harris, and that seems to have worked out extremely well for Christian so far. I see a lot of similarities between the two as far as their games are concerned, and have no doubt that Ian will far surpass expectations on the next level. Ian has already showcased his ability as a linebacker as well as on special teams, making big time tackles in the open field to hault the opposition’s return man. Many great linebackers throughout Crimson Tide history have made game changing-special teams plays prior to becoming household names at linebacker. Alabama fans should definitely be on the lookout for Ian Jackson. This young man will be a force for Alabama sooner rather than later.
