Alabama Football: Crimson Tide Scrimmage Report 09/12/2020

by Ricky Green

The Alabama football program held a full scrimmage inside Bryant-Denny Stadium this afternoon at 1pm central.

***Tide Talk Sports takes great pride in being able to provide the latest, most up-to-date coverage of Alabama athletics to Crimson Tide fans everywhere. It’s important to note that the information contained in this scrimmage report has been obtained from our sources, and is not based on official statistical releases from the University of Alabama football program.

So, here we are Tide fans. Today marks the second “official” scrimmage for the Alabama Crimson Tide football program in fall camp 2020. Sit back and soak it all in as Tide Talk Sports attempts to bring you the most detailed, most comprehensive scrimmage report in the game today:

-Starting offensive line for today’s scrimmage with Alex Leatherwood being held out was (left to right): Kendall Randolph, Deonte Brown, Landon Dickerson, Emil Ekiyor, and Evan Neal. Earlier in the week we saw Evan Neal at left tackle with Chris Owens getting some work at right tackle. Expect to see Alex Leatherwood back in just a matter of a few days.

-Lots of mixing of personnel between the different “strings” but 1st team defensive backfield consists of Patrick Surtain Jr. and Marcus Banks at corner, Battle and Wright at safety, and Malachi Moore getting the start at “Star”. Jobe would have been 2nd team corner along with Ronald Williams Jr., but was in a black non-contact jersey. Freshman Brian Branch saw some time at “Star” with that unit. Saban also said Branch was getting some work as the Tide’s extra DB in the dime package at Money.

-1st defensive line consists of (left to right): Justin Eboigbe, DJ Dale, and LaBryan Ray. Christian Barmore appears to be working with 2nd team based on this week’s practices. Guys like Byron Young, Stephon Wynn, Ish Sopsher, and others will all be a part of a deep rotation along the defensive line this season. DJ Dale is a nearly unblockable force in the middle for Freddie Roach’s defensive line unit.

-Lots of rotation at OLB for Alabama. Think this year we see veterans like Davis and Allen in run situations, and the outstanding freshmen during obvious passing downs. Anderson is nearly unblockable off the edge.. Tide fans need to remember the name Kevin Harris as well, as the sophomore outside linebacker has been really looking good throughout fall camp.

-Mac Jones and Bryce Young have both led scoring drives for the 1st team offense. Both of the Tide’s top two signal callers looking very good early on. Jaylen Waddle looking like Jaylen Waddle. Am told Bryce’s touchdown drive with the ones was 60 plus yards.

-Tight ends will be a talented rotation of Miller Forristall, Carl Tucker, Jahleel Billingsley, and Cameron Latu this season.

-The Crimson Tide have one of the deepest and most talented running back groups in the nation thus year with young guys like Roydell Williams and Jase McClellan shining, and returning backs Najee Harris, Brian Robinson Jr., and Trey Sanders leading the way.

-Will Reichard was 4 of 5 today, with his lone miss coming from 55 yards out.

We have learned via Nick Saban’s post scrimmage press conference that Christian Barmore has sustained a knee injury. It is believed to not be serious at this time. He was in a blacl jersey today along with Josh Jobe.

Overall, the beginning portions of today’s scrimmage has shown exactly what Alabama fans should have wanted to see. The offense was able to move and score the ball, but the defense was flying to the football, gang tackling, and really looks to be much improved from what we saw last season. As more information becomes available, and if we learn more, Tide Talk Sports will update and make any needed changes to today’s report.

How are Metchie, Xavier Williams, the three frosh WR’s Baker, Bell, and Holden, Slade Bolden, and Major Tennyson performing ? Is Baker the third best WR in your opinion behind Waddle and Smith ?

Slade, Baker, Holden will all contribute this year. Baker def has potential to be #3, but for now that’s Metchie’s spot. Tennison continues to improve. Thank you for reading, commenting, and supporting our site! Roll Tide.

Christian has looked fantastic. He and Moses are a force in the middle.
