Welcome to a new series I will put out weekly called “SEC Upsets” where each week the team will pick a potential upset that I will share with you guys. I’m hoping to put this out around Thursday every week so you all can check it out and leave a comment or maybe give you time to show your buddies of who we feel like will be upset that week, so you can rub some salt in the wombs when it actually happens. If you are reading this, and have listened to our last podcast, remember I said Bama fans would love the upset pick this week, so let’s get into it.
KENTUCKY UPSETS AUBURN WEEK ONE:
Kentucky brings a lot of playmakers back on offense, along with a solid offensive line, and the biggest returning star is QB Terry Wilson Jr. Wilson went down with an injury last year, as did their backup. They were forced to play WR Lynn Bowden Jr at QB. Without Wilson, Running Back Kavosiey Smoke became one of the focal points of the offense, and the kid showed out. Kentucky managed an 8-5 record, including dominating in state rival Louisville. In the Belk Bowl, they were trailing late against Virginia Tech, and scored the game winning TD with 15 seconds left in the game.
Now Wilson is back, Smoke is still at Running Back, and that defense is solid. Secondary will be challenged by Bo Nix, and the secondary is probably the weakness on that team. An 11AM kickoff, with only a 20% capacity Jordan Hare, this screams upset. Also, Chad Morris comes in from Arkansas to be the Offensive Coordinator, and Gus has already said Chad Morris will be the primary play caller this year, but how long will that last until Gus gets heavily involved in the play making?
MATCHUP TO WATCH: AU OFFENSIVE LINE VS KENTUCKY’S D-LINE:
Biggest weakness for AU this year is the offensive line. They will still run a spread offense, with a lot of moving parts, so the defensive line will have to keep the their eyes on Bo for potential options on the outside and when AU does pass, make sure get through the inexperienced O-Line and try to get Bo to make some mistakes.
I want to hear your thoughts on in the comments, can Kentucky pull it off? Or do you guys have another potential upset to look out for? Let us know!
