Remember in Part One, I gave a breakdown that Part Two will be focused on the defensive starters. Alabama has some stud playmakers on the defensive side, and even though a few games this year the defense wasn’t to the Alabama standard we are accustomed to seeing, since the 2nd half of the Georgia game, this defense has done a complete 180 and started playing like the defense we all know and love. We know its within their ability, because there’s playmakers all over that defense, let’s look at my breakdown now.
DE- LaBryan Ray- 88 OVR
NG- DJ Dale 86 OVR
DE- Justin Eboigbe- 85 OVR
JACK- Will Anderson- 85 OVR
WILL- Christian Harris- 92 OVR
MIKE- Dylan Moses- 95 OVR
SAM- Christopher Allen- 84 OVR
CB1- Patrick Surtain Jr.- 94 OVR
CB2- Josh Jobe- 88 OVR
FS- Daniel Wright- 81 OVR
SS- Jordan Battle- 88 OVR
STAR- Malachi Moore- 86 OVR
Other Notables:
Christian Barmore- 84 OVR
Byron Young- 84 OVR
DeMarco Hellams-79 OVR
Shane Lee- 78 OVR
Analysis: As I mentioned above, this defense is starting to be more like the defenses of old we are accustomed to seeing. In reality, a “bend but don’t break” defense I will be perfectly fine with in this age of college football. Biggest issue that plagued this defense last year and much of this year, is being out of position, mass confusion, and no accountability of an RB out of the back on a pass route. These problems have slowly been getting resolved since the 2nd half of the Georgia game (shutout by the way). Then they continued to improve against Tennessee, and shutout Mississippi State 2 weeks ago. Yes, I understand it’s Miss. State, but this is the game Miss. State team that put up 44 on the former National Champs (LSU, yikes). I believe this defense will only improve from here on out, and Alabama will be back in the College Football Playoff.
