We are NINE days away from the tip-off of the 2020-2021 basketball campaigns for our Men’s and Women’s programs. Both programs have a lot to look forward to, and we won’t get into an analysis of the teams yet, but we will cover what appear to be two very exciting schedules. I’m no expert, the following is just my thoughts as a fan.

● 11/30 vs Stanford- Maui Invitational, Asheville, NC

Thoughts

This schedule presents a lot of challenges. This will also be a fun year to sit back on the couch and watch, unless of course, you were lucky enough to get a 4 game package offered through Tide Pride.

Jacksonville State has defeated the Tide in recent years during “secret” scrimmages, so don’t let the name on the jerseys fool you- this will not be an easy W. If you have followed Bama hoops for any amount of time, you know there are no easy Ws, but this is an exciting game to kick the season off with. If you are wanting to attend, some tickets whould be available at some point according to emails from Tide Pride. Keep a check on rolltide.com/tickets.

The field in the Maui Invitational, as always, is a strong one. This is one of the best tournaments every year and I’m excited to see how we perform.

The Hoopsgiving event in Atlanta is something I was really looking forward to. However, due to COVID-19, no spectators are allowed. It will still be exciting to watch these two teams square off.

Alabama wraps up the pre-conference slate with home games against Furman (for the 2nd year in a row), Houston & ETSU. Houston appears to be the marquee match-up of the three.

The SEC slate starts out pretty brutal. Opening with Ole Miss is not a push-over, but there is no breathing room in the next five games. Traveling to Tennessee, Kentucky and the barn, and hosting Florida will make for a tough few weeks.

It is still too early to have an opinion on the rest of the season, but I’m just thankful we are going to see Coach Oats lead our boys on the hardwood.

Women’s Basketball Schedule

● 11/25 vs Samford
● 11/29 vs Houston
● 12/2 vs USC- Upstate
● 12/5 @ Oklahoma State- SEC-BIG 12 Challenge
● 12/9 vs Sam Houston State
● 12/13 @ Mercer
● 12/17 vs Southern Miss
● 12/19 @ Memphis
● 12/21 vs Jacksonville U
● 12/31 @ Mizzou
● 1/4 vs South Carolina
● 1/7 vs LSU
● 1/10 @ Vandy
● 1/14 @ Mississippi State
● 1/17 vs Tennessee
● 1/24 vs auburn
● 1/28 @ Kentucky
● 1/31 @ South Carolina
● 2/4 vs Georgia
● 2/11 vs Ole Miss
● 2/14 @ auburn
● 2/18 @ Florida
● 2/21 vs Mississippi State
● 2/25 vs Texas A&M
● 2/28 @ Arkansas

Thoughts

Coach Curry’s squad has some really fun games on the slate. Rough draw getting USC & Mississippi State twice, but it will be a good measuring stick for our program.

The home game with Houston is one I’m looking forward to, but the road game at Memphis should be a blast. On a side note, assuming UA Football makes the SEC Championship game, we will have 3 games on that day. Football in the title game, MBB hosting Houston, and WBB traveling to Memphis. What a day for gumping!

Like I said, we really have a lot to look forward to. What games are y’all most excited about? Let me know in the comments. Roll Tide.
