November 28th the Auburn Tigers will square off against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Bryant Denny Stadium. The Iron Bowl is arguably the most heated rivalry in college sports and every year there is always a game defining moment. This year will be no different, especially after news broke Wednesday morning that Nick Saban (Alabama Head coach) had tested positive for Covid-19 and had “mild” symptoms. Steve Sarkisian will be the interim head man during the game and you better believe he will have Bama ready to play.
If you recall during last year’s Iron Bowl, the Alabama offense was having little trouble moving the ball against the vaunted Tigers defense of 2019. This was Mac Jones’ first true “big” game and he responded with a career day in passing. Bama fans remember all too well the 2 INT returns for AU touchdowns (yes, one was a fluke play), but Jones and Waddle were carving the defense through the air. One person who has been overlooked from the game last year is Najee Harris. Najee has found a different gear this season and has become the best back in the SEC and arguably all of football.
The Auburn Tigers run defense has been absolutely horrid this year. Last week, Tennessee averaged over 7 yards per carry, and Alabama enters with top Offensive Line in college football, along with the aforementioned running back, Najee Harris. Alabama will feed Najee the ball early and often to soften the Auburn defense before implementing the vertical game with Devonta Smith and John Metchie III. Injuries have plagued the Tigers defensively and looking at the AU defense with a non-bias perspective, I do not see how they hold up for 4 quarters. Look for the first half to be played somewhat close with Bama holding a potential 10 point lead at halftime; however, once attrition sets in, Alabama will pull away and win big. My official score prediction is Alabama 49 Auburn 23. Roll Tide.
