Alabama Basketball: Auburn Goes Down

Auburn, AL: The Alabama men’s basketball team left Auburn with their first win in town since 2015. While only shooting .400, the Tide came out with the the 94-90 win Alabama (8-3, 4-0) wins their fifth straight game, fourth in the SEC. Auburn (6-6, 0-4) still has yet to win an SEC game this season.

Freshman guard Joshua Primo lead all Tide scorers with 22 points. All five starters scored double digits: Grad transfer Jordan Bruner tallied 20, Herb Jones scored 19, Shackelford and Petty scored 11 and 10, respectively. Jones and John Petty, Jr each led the team in rebounds with 8 each.

Primo shot 50% from the 3, going 4/8 from the mark. As a team, Alabama shot 31% from the 3, and 40% on all field goals. One area that was a big improvement for the Tide over recent weeks was its’ free throw shooting. Bama only missed 5 free throws, totaling 24/29. Alabama outrebounded Auburn on the offensive side 12 to 6, and overall 42-39.

Auburn hit 46.8% of FGs and 29.6% of 3-point FGs. Freshman Sharife Cooper for Auburn had a breakout performance, scoring 26 points, recording 4 rebounds and 9 assists. Auburn turned the ball over 20 times to Alabama’s 16, scoring just 13 points off of those turnovers. Alabama scored 21 off turnovers.

Next up for Alabama is at Kentucky on Tuesday, January 12th, at 8:00pm, before heading back home to Tuscaloosa to take on Arkansas next Saturday. Auburn will travel to Athens to take on Georgia at 6:00pm Wednesday.
